Learn how to create striking abstract textile designs at our beautiful shop set inside a 17th century barn, in Braintree.

In this all day class, Dorothy Ronaldson teaches you to have fun with something a little more contemporary where many different techniques are combined to create a textured, abstract composition. The overall design will evolve in an organic way based on your initial colour and shape choices. There will be lots of examples to inform your choices and all stages and stitches will be demonstrated.

You will learn the arts of:

Painting fabric
Appliqué
Knots
Needle weaving
Fabric manipulation
Beading
Mounting and framing your composition

This workshop is suitable for both beginners to embroidery and those with experience who want to expand their range of skills.

The following materials will be provided for you:

Painted and unpainted silk, linen and muslin
Woven and non-woven iron-on interfacing
Jacquard Lumiere and Dye-Na-Flow fabric paints
Hand embroidery threads (including perle, stranded, metallic and textured)
Bead selection

You need to bring with you:

Fabric and thread cutting scissors
Hand embroidery needles
Crewel needles and tapestry needles (medium to larger sizes).
Small size crewel needle for beading
If you have any unusual beads or buttons you would like to include feel free to bring them along - flat beads work particularly well.

Tea/coffee and of course cake will be provided.
